The Dream (For Some) Is Dead

Gasol to the Lakers.

Put me in the "Meh" camp. At this point, thinking that Pau Gasol could have been the solution to this team's problems strikes me as borderline lunacy.

Agreed. I guess the only thing that irks me is the notion that after all these years of speculation—specifically, of potentially giving up Gordon, Deng—all Memphis got was Kwame Brown, an unproven point guard and some picks. Although, to be fair, Memphis obviously made this deal to get under the cap. Although couldn't a sign-and-traded PJ have accomplished the same? Still, I didn't really want him on our team, so I agree with BenGo.

This is disappointing he could have provided some inside scoring to the Bulls and we could have gotten him for nothing why did we wait?

For starters, we don't have a big expirer like Kwame Brown. Last year, Memphis probably could've gotten a big expirer like PJ Brown, Tyrus Thomas (who has waaaay more upside than Crittendon and also isn't a point guard) and some future picks. But they insisted on Deng and/or Gordon; Pax rightfully said no, and so, like McHale with Garnett, they ended up getting a much worse deal. Why folks would blame Paxson for this, I have no idea.

OTOH, if we actually could've gotten Gasol by parting with Noce, and that was the deal breaker for Pax, then obviously, yes, fuck him 1,000 times over.

I wonder if his contract would have prevented us from resigning Deng

Well, he and Wallace would be $31 mil tied up. Kirk's another $8. They probably could've resigned Deng for around 10 to 11 mil. (assuming Noce's millstone of a contract was shipped out for Pau), but then Gordon would be next year, then gone.

They wanted Nocioni and Tyrus. They did have talks with the Bulls but Memphis took a 20 million dollar hit and the owner wanted Wallace to cut budget, hence K Brown. I don't think Gasol was worth what the Griz wanted anyways because he doesn't play great defense and it appears he's lost a step. If he finds new life in LA remains to be seen.

Lakers and Bulls talked about a KBrown/Wallace trade. Lakers thought Big Ben was old and washed up. Also they thought of him somewhat as a cancer. Bad tude.

Can't blame Pax for this, not that I wanted Gasol anyway.

Can't believe they got so little for Gasol. Crittendon has great size, but he has no idea how to run a team.
